Repost : Castara gets community tourism project:

Press release from Division of Tourism and Transportation:
Secretary of Tourism and Transportation has announced in Berlin, Germany that her Division is about to embark project that will see the community of Castara receiving enhanced benefits from community and responsible tourism.
The Secretary revealed that the project is designed to ensure that going forward communities are integral to the tourism product and therefore bridge the divide between the crucial tourism industry and the people of Tobago.
She said, “In that respect we believe that our communities must be an integral part of the tourism product. In other words communities must buy into the product. They must see the benefits and because they are part of it they will have an interest in protecting it.”
She argued that Castara is one of those communities that truly epitomises what Tobago is all about – clean, green and serene. It is a true representation of Tobago’s culture, having had a rich history and heritage.
Secretary Davidson- Celestine told the German media that the DOTT and the wider THA believe this approach can develop unique and special community tourism brands that would create differentiation of the Tobagonian tourism product – a brand that would also create an umbrella to galvanise the interest of the small, micro and medium sized operators and provide a forum to enhance their profitability, performance and sustainability.
“By doing this we believe that we will be able to create innovative, sustainable and world-class tourism products that are owned, managed and enjoyed by the local communities starting with Castara.”
In a wide ranging news conference the Secretary talked about the increased international arrivals to Tobago for the winter period and introduced the DOTT’s new German representative as the Division concentrates on increasing arrivals from Europe including the German speaking countries of Europe.
